Norway suffered their third straight Nations League defeat after Goncalo Ramos scored a late winner to send Portugal into the last eight.
Norway took the lead in the 36th minute when Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer controlled Martin Odegaard’s cross on his chest before firing a half-volley into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Cancelo Equalises as Haaland Misses Chance
However, Portugal responded just two minutes later. Joao Cancelo produced a brilliant finish from distance after Nuno Mendes’ long throw-in, bringing the score level at 1-1.
Haaland had a chance to put Norway back in front but dragged his shot wide before being replaced by Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Ramos Scores Late Winner for Portugal
Portugal eventually found the winner with 11 minutes remaining. Ramos finished from close range after Joao Felix set him up inside the box, securing Portugal’s fourth straight victory in the competition.
Conceicao Sent Off as Portugal Finish With 10 Men
Portugal finished the match with 10 men after winger Francisco Conceicao was sent off in the 87th minute. He received two quick yellow cards for dissent.
Portugal Win Again Without Cristiano Ronaldo
It was also Portugal’s third consecutive match without Cristiano Ronaldo. The country’s record goalscorer left the national team camp last week after being dropped.
Portugal boss Jorge Jesus said he plans to speak with the 41-year-old forward about his future with the national team.
“If he wants to, he’ll return to the national team,” Jesus said on Sunday.
Nations League Group A4 Standings: Portugal Top, Norway Bottom
With two matches remaining in the group stage, defending Nations League champions Portugal sit six points clear of second-placed Denmark, who beat Wales 1-0.
The result leaves Portugal in a strong position at the top of the group, while Norway remain bottom after another disappointing defeat.
