Wei Chong-Kai Wun Bounce Back

Malaysia’s third seeds Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, known as Wei Chong-Kai Wun, had to fight hard in their Korea Open opener in Yeosu. The world No. 9 pair faced a world No. 67 pair for the first time.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun lost the first game 21-12, but they quickly took control after that. They won the next two games 21-8, 21-12 to reach the last 16.

Big Upset by Independent Pair

The biggest surprise of the day came from a Malaysian independent pair. Few people expected them to win, but they beat China’s second seeds Chen Boyang and Liu Yi 21-14, 21-19 in straight games to reach the last 16.

Tough Day for Other Malaysians

It was a difficult day for the other Malaysian men’s doubles pairs. One pair lost 21-11, 21-17 to a new South Korean pair.

Another Malaysian pair pushed China’s eighth seeds to three games but lost 21-14, 22-24, 21-17. A third pair went down 22-20, 21-12 to South Korea’s top seeds Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae.

One more Malaysian pair withdrew before their first-round match, giving their Chinese opponents a walkover.
