PV Sindhu poses with her gold medal after becoming the first Indian woman to be crowned Hylo Open women's singles champion.

Straight-Games Win in the Final

Former world champion PV Sindhu won the women’s singles title at the Hylo Open, a BWF World Tour Super 500 event in Saarbrucken, Germany. The second seed beat Denmark’s eighth seed Line Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the first final on Sunday.

It was Sindhu’s second win in a row against Kjaersfeldt. She has now won seven of their eight meetings.

A First for India

The Hylo Open began in 1988, but no Indian woman had ever won the women’s singles title before. Sindhu’s victory adds a new chapter to Indian badminton history.

Strong Season Continues

The 31-year-old has been in great form this season. This is her second BWF World Tour title of the year, after she won the Japan Open in July. She also reached the final of the French Open last week, where she finished runner-up.
