World No. 1 An Se-young reaches high for a smash on her way to a 52nd straight win at the Korea Open.

Straight-Game Loss for Letshanaa

Letshanaa, ranked world No. 28, lost 10-21, 12-21 to An Se-young on Thursday. An is the top seed and has won the Korea Open twice before.

It was Letshanaa’s fifth loss in five meetings with the South Korean. She has never won a game against An. Their last meeting before this was in the women’s team quarter-finals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

No Malaysian Singles Player Left

Letshanaa’s defeat means all of Malaysia’s singles players are now out of the tournament. Once again, none of them made it past the round of 16.

An Se-young Keeps Winning

The 24-year-old An is in amazing form. After winning her second world title at the World Championships in New Delhi, she went on to win the China Masters, the Asian Games, the Denmark Open and the French Open. That is five titles in a row and 52 straight match wins.

An won the Korea Open at home in 2022 and 2023 and now wants a third title. In the quarter-finals, she will play either Japan’s eighth seed Riko Gunji or Chinese Taipei’s Tung Ciou-tong. A win this week would give her an 11th title this season.
