Race day, beyond the leader

Follow a different rider for a few laps and discover another race within the race.

Pick a second storyline

The fight at the front is only one way to follow a race. Choose another rider in the field and track their position for a few laps. Look for the gaps ahead and behind, and notice when those gaps start to change.

Separate observation from explanation

A rider losing time is something you can observe. The reason may be less clear. Unless a team, rider or official source explains it, avoid assuming that a particular tyre, mechanical issue or tactical decision is responsible.

Return to the whole picture

Our viewing suggestion is to switch between the overall order and your chosen rider. You may notice a recovery, a close contest or a difficult afternoon that the headline result alone would not capture. Let the race provide the story.
