Lee Zii Jia Looks to Build on Arctic Open Run
Lee Zii Jia, 28, arrives in good form after reaching the semi-finals of the Arctic Open earlier this month. He has also climbed to No. 42 in the world rankings.
In the first round, Lee will face Singapore’s Jason Teh, who is ranked No. 33 in the world. Lee has good memories of this tournament, as he finished runner-up at the Hylo Open in 2021. Malaysia’s Justin Hoh is also in the men’s singles draw and will play India’s Kiran George in the first round.
Hoo and Lai in Great Form
Mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing have been one of Malaysia’s best pairs in recent weeks. They reached the semi-finals of the Denmark Open and then finished runners-up at the French Open. In Saarbrucken, they will open against a pair who came through qualifying.
“Enjoying Every Match”
Hoo said he has enjoyed playing much more since leaving the national team in April. He explained that he now treats every match as if it could be his last.
He added that he sometimes does a little dance on court because he feels so happy, and that enjoying the game is the most important thing for him. He hopes he and Lai can keep their good form going in Germany.
