There is more to a rally than the final smash

Three small changes to the way you watch badminton.

Follow the recovery

The shuttle travels quickly enough to command all your attention. For one rally, try looking at where a player moves just after hitting it. This simple change of focus can reveal a rhythm you miss when following only the shuttle.

Look at both sides

Replay a point twice, following a different player each time. Ask what each player could see and where they had to go next. Treat your answer as an observation, not a certainty about what was in the athlete’s mind.

Let the point unfold

The winning shot is an ending, not the whole story. Our approach is to enjoy the exchange before it too: the movement, the pauses and the changes of direction. You do not need a coaching qualification to appreciate a rally with a little more attention.
